OSCE experts visit Uzbekistan
ODIHR Election Assessment Mission arrived in Uzbekistan to observe the elections to be held in the country on December 22 this year.
The delegation is led by the Head of ODIHR Election Assessment Mission, Cayetana de Zulueta Owtram. The mission consists of political, electoral, legal and media experts.
Members of the delegation from among international observers met with the leadership of the Central Election Commission.
At the meeting, attention was focused on improving the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan in accordance with international standards and positive foreign experience. It was noted that in this direction, the introduction of modern information and communication technologies, normative-legal acts on further improving the activities of election commissions are important.
Almost 20 million 600 thousand voters are expected to take part in the elections this year. Over 2 million people are young people who will take part in the elections for the first time.
It should be noted that the mission that arrived in the country to assess the elections will be based on OSCE commitments, international standards and requirements for holding democratic elections, as well as on national legislation.
The mission will observe the election campaign, the election administration and the activities of competent organizations, and law compliance. Experts will also monitor the media coverage of the election.
